Lunch/Keynote: Is There Hope for Planned Giving?
Tanya Howe Johnson, President, Partnership for Philanthropic Planning

The planned giving world, as both nonprofits and financial advisors have known it, has changed dramatically in the past 20 years. It often seems that these changes forecast doom and gloom. What are these changes? How are they affecting charities, advisors, and your clients? What can you expect in the future? And, how can you not only survive these challenges, but help turn the tide?

Tanya Howe Johnson is president and CEO of the National Committee on Planned Giving. During her 16 year tenure NCPG has developed the award-winning publication, The Journal of Gift Planning; launched LEAVE A LEGACY®, a national award-winning donor education campaign; and created numerous industry standards and best practice models for charitable gift planning.

In addition to other honors, The NonProfit Times named Johnson to both its 2007 and 2008 national "Nonprofit Power and Influence Top 50". She has received the Distinguished Alumni Award from her alma mater, Columbia College (Missouri), and was selected as the 2004 national honor initiate for Sigma Kappa Sorority. As a charitable giving advocate, she has met with President George W. Bush and numerous members of Congress, and has been quoted in publications such as The Wall Street Journal and the Washington Post.

As a management consultant, Tanya has worked with more than 100 nonprofit organizations. She holds the Certified Association Executive designation, a certification held by less than five percent of association management professionals. She currently sits on the American Society of Association Executives' Key Philanthropic Organizations Committee.

Johnson actively supports philanthropy in her local community, serving on the board of directors of the Indianapolis Affiliate of Komen for the Cure and as the chair of the Noblesville First United Methodist Church Foundation.

How to Avoid a Disaster of Titanic Proportions in This Tough Economic Time by Emphasizing the Easiest Planned Gift - Bequests!
Susan DameGreene, Bipster

Man the Lifeboats! Icebergs Ahead! How to Avoid a disaster of Titanic Proportions in this tough economic time by emphasizing the easiest Planned Gift!

As a Development Officer, do you spend much time asking for Bequests?

Many folks think they have little control over bequests. This area is left to a secretary to 'write the necessary letters.' In reality, 60-80% of all Planned Giving revenue comes from bequests. The proactive approach you used to get that donor and that first gift can yield handsome and sometimes spectacular results in bequests. Three quarters of an iceberg is hidden - it’s the same with bequest. Join us for a lively action packed session of how to "net" the most from that underutilized gift - bequests.

Susan DameGreene is President of BIPSTER LLC, a Planned Giving firm specializing in Future and Realized Bequest and Planned Gift tracking Reporting and Collecting. Most recently, Susan, as Senior Associate Director of Gift Planning at American Red Cross NHQ in Washington, DC, supported and trained 2800 chapters in Planned Giving, raising $75 million yearly. While at the American National Red Cross, Susan brought in a $25 million gift, the largest in ANRC history. Earlier, as Associate Director of Planned Giving, she supported 15 Planned Giving Representatives for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis managing the department of 6, which raised $16 million yearly.
